Abstract
881,612. Moulding brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. May 11, 1960, No. 16642/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXIII] In a method of making a brush (see Group XXIII) comprising bristles between which is an elastomeric or plastic material, e.g. rubber, neoprene, butadiene-acrylonitrile elastomer, nylon, vinyl plastic or melamine resin (where neoprene is used, it may be of sponge form), an annular brush element is heated in a mould. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the mould comprises annular discs 8, 9 mounted on a mandrel 7, disc 8 being removable from the mandrel and a helically wound flat strip 11 forming a continuous cylinder. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the mould comprises a mandrel 12, a plurality of annular discs 16 movably mounted thereon to provide a plurality of mould cavities therebetween, and two semi-cylindrical mating shell members 19, 20 adapted to secured together to form a continuous cylinder enclosing the space between the discs 16.
