Abstract
880,950. Cigarette-making machines. BRAUNSTEIN, M. Aug. 4, 1960 [May 27, 1959], No. 27022/60. Class 130. A cigarette is formed with a bore 3, Fig. 1, during production on a continuous rod machine, Fig. 2, by wrapping the tobacco around a continuous wire 14 stretching from a point prior to the wrapping apparatus 17 to a point adjacent the cut-off. The tobacco shower is parted by a plate 9, Fig. 4, to initiate formation of a groove in the tobacco stream which is compacted by a ribbed roller 11. The wire 14 is carried by a bracket 13 which also supports a nozzle 16 which moistens the wire and the surrounding tobacco whereby the wall of the bore hardens during the drying stage following pasting of the wrapper and prevents the bore collapsing. In a modification, Fig. 7, a thin strip of paper 20 is fed into the groove in the tobacco stream and wrapped around the wire to form a lining for the bore.
