Abstract
880,852. Cleaning metals. RUTHNER, O. Aug. 25, 1959 [Aug. 29, 1958], No. 29038/59. Class 82 (2) Strip or wire 2 is pickled by being fed from reel 1 to take-up reel 19 through tower 12 in which it is sprayed from nozzles 10. the strip being passed around roller 8 to form a loop which may be varied in size by vertical adjustment of the roller. Roller 8- is provided with counter-weights which tend to urge it upwards or is positively driven in an upward or downward direction. Thus if there is an interruption in the feeding of the strip, e.g. if it is being welded at plant 5, take-up reel 19 may continue to draw strip from tower 12 by virtue of the strip stored in the loop around rolled 8: in such circumstances roller 8 is drawn downwards. Alternatively the loop is formed downwardly around the lower part of roller 8. In modifications, roller 8 is positioned at the outlet side of tower 12 in addition to, or instead of, the roller shown, and guide roller 9 is allowed vertical movement.
