Abstract

880,217. Ventilators; skylights. VENNER, H. A. L. (Wasco Chemical Co. Inc.). April 10, 1959, No. 12289/59. Classes 137 and 20(3) A combined ventilator and skylight comprises a translucent hood 10 mounted over a well 18 in the roof of a building and containing a fan 32 for drawing air from the building, the hood on the exhaust side of the fan having means for closing the opening. The hood is obliquely frusto-cylindrical in shape and has an outward flange 11 around its edge which is clamped between angle-elements 12, 14 secured to the kerb 13 of the well. The fan is mounted in a sleeve 30 at the outer end of the hood and the sleeve terminates outwardly in a frame 50 carrying pivoted louvres 52, which close under gravity but open when the fan operates. In a modification (Fig. 7) the light-transmitting part of the well is separated from the fan-containing part by a partition 76, the fan 70 being arranged vertically above a duct 68. In this form the louvres 78 are fixed and the opening is closable by a pivoted counterweighted flap 80. The hood is of translucent plastics material.
