Abstract

880,204. Pipe couplings; metal pipes. VICTAULIC CO. of AMERICA. July 13, 1959, No. 23984/59. Addition to 797,914. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). The coupling groove in a conduit section has a flat bottom 3, and sides 4, 5 which extend as continuous curves from the bottom 3 to their junction with the outer surface of the tube at 4a, 5a. The grooving of the tube is effected preferably by rolling as in the parent Specification, downwardly inclined annuli 6 on the outside of the tube, and annular surfaces 8 on the inside, thus being formed. Two conduits are coupled together by a housing 11, Fig. 2, having key sections 12, the sharp edges 13 of which bite into the curved walls of the grooves in the tubes. Disposed within the housing is a resilient gasket 15, the lips 16 of which seat on the ends of the pipes, while the opening in the gasket overlies the space 17 between the tubes.
