Abstract
<PICT:0880156/III/1> A liquid container for edible oils comprises a body 10 with pouring neck 12 and cap 15, at least one of said members having, on a part of its surface next the other of said members when the cap is seated, a coating 16 of an alkali metal dihydrogen orthophosphate salt to stop edible oils lying on said part from smelling on oxidation. The alkali metal dihydrogen orthophosphate, which may be NaH2PO4 or KH2PO4 applied as a film approximately 0,00030 to 0,00050 centimetres thick on containers of glass or metal such as aluminium or tin plated iron, is dried at a temperature under 200 DEG C. To avoid preliminary cleaning of the container surface, a wetting agent may be added e.g. a sodium alkyl sulphate derived by the sulphation and subsequent neutralization of higher alcohols containing predominantly 10-14 carbon atoms. The Specification lists other wetting agents which may be used. The container may be completely coated.
