Abstract

A surface reflection reducing coating is produced on a glass article, e.g. a cathode ray tube by spraying an aqueous solution of sodium or potassium silicate on the surface of the article after heating the surface to a temperature at which the silicate will adhere thereto. The temperature may be between 130 DEG C. and 420 DEG C. and the surface may be maintained thereat for a short period after spraying, or cooled and subsequently reheated to a temperature of e.g. 500 DEG C. The sodium or potassium silicate solution may have a specific gravity of between 1.0125 and 1.1. After coating, the surface is preferably washed to remove excess sodium or potassium hydroxide.
