A universal joint for connecting a splined half-axle 4 to a differential output shaft and road wheel hub of a motor vehicle comprises a tongue 4 on the half-axle pivoted on a pin 11 between two-part cylindrical segments 12, 13 which engage within a transverse cylindrical bore in the differential shaft 1 (or wheel hub) and are held in position by a sleeve 11 retained by a spring clip 15.
