Abstract
879,737. Inhalers. OXYGENAIRE (LONDON) Ltd. Nov. 10, 1959 [Nov.10, 19581, No. 36042/58. Class 81 (2). An atomizer for supplying an inhalant to a treatment chamber or face mask comprises a tubular body 1 open at both ends, one end connected to a liquid container 3 and the other end communicating with a delivery pipe 14 for the chamber or mask and an atomizing nozzle 8 in the body connectable to a source of gas under pressure and to the container through a suction pipe, an air inlet aperture 16 or apertures being located in the tubular body in the region of the nozzle outlet. The atomizer comprises a body 1 housing a nozzle 8 connected by a pipe 6 with a compressed gas supply (e.g. oxygen) and through a rigid tube 12 and a flexible tube 13 with liquid in a bottle 3 which may be made of polythene. The body is threaded on an adapter 2 to which the bottle is threaded, a flanged thimble 5 being supported between the body and the adapter. Gas passing through the nozzle withdraws liquid from the bottle. The liquid which becomes atomized is entrained by the gas through the nozzle outlet 10 and a pipe 14 to a face mask or treatment chamber. Atmospheric air may enter the pipe 14 through an opening 16 which is regulated by an apertured sleeve 17 which is rotatable on the pipe. Additional substances may be supplied through a branch pipe 20.
