879,600. Magnetic recording &c. heads. VECTRON ELECTRO-PHYSICS Ltd. May 16, 1960 [June 4, 1959; Dec. 2, 1959], Nos. 19110/59 and 41033/59. Class 40 (2). A stacked magnetic head comprises relatively thin polepieces of highly permeable magnetic alloy 13, 14, mounted to a pair of non-magnetic blocks 11, 12, the alloy being divided into separate heads 19, 20, 21, 22 by photo-chemical etching, leaving cross-talk screening strips 23, 24, 25. Ferrite cores, Fig. 2, are arranged about the blocks 11, 12 to contact the polepieces, where they overlap the blocks at 30, 31. Recesses 33 accommodate windings 34. Magnetic and electric screening plates are arranged on each side of each core, the electric screen 42, contacting the further side of the core in Fig. 2 being extended to enter the gap between the polepiece 19 and the polepiece screen 23, while the magnetic screen 41 is arranged to abut the screen 23. A common, aligned transducing gap may be achieved in all the heads by attaching a sheet of alloy to a block which is later divided into the blocks 11, 12 abutting a gap-spacer 15. The windings may be divided about the core (Fig. 4, not shown), to reduce spurious pick-up and the cores may carry an additional feed-back winding.
