Abstract

769,651. Magnetic recording or reproducing apparatus. RANK PRECISION INDUSTRIES (B.A.F.), Ltd., [formerly BRITISH ACOUSTIC FILMS, Ltd.]. May 19, 1955, No. 14477/55. Class 40 (2). A magnetic erasing head for a magnetic recording or reproducing apparatus has multiple working gaps 8, 9 formed in a core structure consisting of two twolegged strips 1 of magnetically soft material strips which are approximately U-shaped and are juxtaposed to form an approximately UU shaped structure in which a bobbin 7 containing an energizable winding 6 embraces the two inner abutting legs 3 which constitute a main centre pole-piece whilst the two outer legs 2 are each bent at 4, 5 towards the centre pole-piece to form a narrow gap on each side of the latter and constitute the outer pole-pieces of the head. The gaps are filled by shims of low permeability or of non-magnetic material, e.g. stainless steel or copper respectively The head preferably is encased in an electrically insulating moulding 10 which has embedded in it pins not shown, by which the head may be detachably mounted and which constitute the winding connecting means.
