Abstract

879,421. Typewriters &c. SHEPARD, F. H. July 9, 1959, No. 23632/59. Class 100(4) In a high-speed printer in which an assembly of type wheels 9 on an arbor 8 is constantly rotated and impression is effected by hammers 11, the type wheels are mounted so that the clamping pressure does not tend to cause distortion. The type wheels 9 are secured on the arber by keys 26, 27 and are clamped together by nuts 20 on the threaded end parts 21. Interposed between one nut 20 and the end type wheel 9 is an adaptor plate 29 and a thrust sleeve 31 having interengaging, spherical or conical surfaces 33, 34. The plate 29 has a large central hole so that it is loose on the arbor and due to the surfaces 33, 34 can tilt so that the clamping pressure on the type wheels 9 remains so that there is no tendency for them to bow or distort due to any uneveness in their thickness. The distance of the hammers 11 from the types 22 thus remains constant.
