Abstract

1,075,914. Grinding. CARBORUNDUM CO. March 11, 1966 [March 25, 1965], No. 10733/66. Heading B3D. A grinding wheel spindle assembly comprises a sleeve 4 having a first radial flange 34 at one end and axle means 10 for rotation therewith, a second radial flange 36 separate from the sleeve, a plurality of studs 42 extending between the flanges, and nuts 52 for urging the flanges towards each other for clamping a solid centre grinding wheel 32 therebetween. The second flange may be formed with a flat plate so that the grinding wheel is mounted on the end of the spindle or, as shown, also be formed with a sleeve 6 having an axle 8, the axles being mounted in bearings 12, 14 disposed within collars 20, 22 adapted to be clamped in conventional supports in a wheel housing. The studs 42 are a friction fit in the flange 36 and extend through holes 54 having fibrous liners 56 in the grinding wheel and through holes 50 in the flange 34, the nuts 52 clamping the flanges against the grinding wheel. A sheave 58 is secured to the sleeve 6 by a screw 60 or key.
