Abstract
Close boiling olefins are separated by forming the corresponding boron trialkyls, separating by distillation and recovering the olefins. The process may be combined with that of Specification 874,507 involving isomerisation of the boron trialkyls but preferably temperatures are kept below 160 DEG C. to avoid isomerisation. The olefins may be C4-C10 olefins, e.g. butenes. In a preferred form the boron trialkyls are formed by reaction with triethyl borane, or other trialkyl borane, liberating ethylene and employing this ethylene to displace the olefins from the separated boron trialkyls.
