Abstract

878,468. Glazing bars. ROBINSON KING & BRITISH CHALLENGE GLAZING CO. Ltd., WATERS, R. R., and LEMAY, K. Aug. 6, 1959 [Aug. 6, 1958], No. 25263/58. Class 20(3) A glazing bar 17, Fig 2 is fixed to a purlin of a roof by means of a fixing bracket 10 having a base 11 securable to the purlin, two upwardly extending arms 12 with inturned edges 13 and an upwardly extending projection 14 or projections to bear against the bottom of the bar 17 so as to hold the bar with the extremities of the flanges 20 engaged underneath the inturned edges 13 and leaving gaps between the flanges 20 and the base 11 on the outer side of the projection(s) 14. The projection(s) 14 may be a detachable element such as the head of a bolt 40, Fig. 6, passing through a hole 39 in the base 30 or a bracketfixing stud 16, Fig. 2, threaded into the base 11 and used to clamp the flanges 20 in the bracket. The bracket is used with an L-shaped glass stop 44, Fig. 5, having a slot(s) 42 in one arm 41 to locate that arm between the bar 36, Fig. 6 and the base 30 of the bracket with the projection(s) 40 passing through the slot(s) 42. The slot 42 may cover two projections symmetrically disposed on either side the centre line of the stop arm, and lock the stop against longitudinal movement, the other arm 44, Fig. 5, extending upwardly to form the glass stop. The arm 41 has ribs 43, Fig. 6, bearing against the base 30 along two lines of contact. Lateral projecting portions of the base 30 have fixing holes 33 and upwardly extending end portions 34 for supporting draught excluding fillets.
