Abstract
878,404. Erecting tower cranes. TICHAUER S.A., M. June 9, 1959 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 19751/59. Class 78 (4). [Also in Group XXV] Two members which are relatively movable by means of a rope or cable are automatically locked together when the tension in the rope or cable is relaxed. As shown, the locking device is applied to a tower crane in which two sections 2, 3 of the tower are relatively movable by means of a rope as described in Specification 853,096. A member 7, secured to the tower section 2, slidably supports a pin 8 which is urged by means of a spring 9 towards a member 14, secured to the lower section 3 and provided with slots 15 for receiving the pin. When the lower sections 2, 3 are moved relatively by means of a rope 13, the rope engages in a notch 12 in the pin 8 thereby holding the pin in its full-line position. On relaxing the tension in the rope, the pin 8 moves into engagement with a slot 15 in the member 14 under the action of the spring 9.
