Abstract

878,291. Mounting engines; frames., LEYLAND MOTORS Ltd. Dec. 24, 1957 [Sept. 24, 1956], No. 29150/56. Classes 79(3) and 79(4). A mounting for an integral engine-clutchgear-box assembly (Fig. 1, not shown) that is set transversely across the rear end of a road passenger vehicle comprises coned rubber mountings 8, one on each side of the gear-box, and inclined flat rubber sandwich mountings 12-13-14, one on each side of the engine. The mountings 8 have double-ended cones, one end to seat on the clutch housing and one end in a bracket 9 on the longitudinal girder 2. They engage the engine assembly housing at the level of its axis of least inertia, which is indicated by the line 15 in Fig. 2. The mountings 12-13-14 are attached to transverse girders 3 and 4 and their lines of thrust, taken perpendicular to the surfaces of the rubber sandwiches, intersect the axis of least inertia as shown in the Figure. Specifications 759,763 and 759,764 are referred to.
