Abstract
878,236. Lens hoods. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. March 21, 1960 [April 2, 1959], No. 9913/60. Class 98(1) An aperture defining and shading device for a camera comprises a member, with an aperture for aligning with a camera lens, which carries a second apertured shading member movable towards the first member from a position in which the second member is aligned with and spaced a predetermined distance from the first aperture. The device shown in Fig. 1 comprises a base plate 26 having a flange 28 for attachment to the camera and an aperture 30. Fixed to or integral with this base is one end 38 of a curved sheet 36 of resilient material having an aperture 44 therein which is normally spaced a distance d from the aperture 30, which distance is determined by the equation A = a+d (L/F), where A is the maximum dimension of aperture 44; a is the maximum dimension of aperture 30; FÀis the focal length of the camera objective; L is the maximum dimension of the image formed by said lens in its focal plane. The shapes of plate 36 and of the apertures 30, 44 may vary, e.g. the plate may be elliptical and the apertures may be rectangular. Filters &c. may be attached to the base plate. In Fig. 4 the device is pivoted to a bellows-type camera at 54 and is spring urged into the position shown or into a position in front of the lens.
