Abstract
Coated, orally administrable pharmaceutical preparations, e.g. p tablets and pills are coated by conventional methods with a resin obtained by the copolymerization of 20-80% by weight of an amino-ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and 80-20% of a second polymerizable monomer which per se forms a water insoluble polymer. Specific examples of amino-esters given are those of acrylic and methacrylic acid with N,N - dimethyl- and diethyl - b - amino ethanol, N,N - dimethyl - amino - propanol and b - hydroxy - N - ethyl - morpholine. As comonomers are mentioned lower esters of acrylic and methacrylic acid, e.g. with aliphatic alcohols of 1-10 carbon atoms, styrene, acrylonitrile and vinyl acetate. More than one member of each type may be used in admixture and plasticizers, flavouring and colouring agents may be added. The polymerization is preferably carried out in an inert organic solvent (examples given) in the presence of a non-peroxidic compound yielding free radicals, e.g. azo-diiso-butyric acid nitrile and the solution diluted to a concentration suitable for coating. The coating is stated to be generally water-insoluble but soluble in the acid medium (pH 2-6) of the stomach.
