Abstract
1283813 Mono(meth)acrylate copolymers CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 19 May 1970 [13 June 1969] 24156/70 Heading C3P Hydrophilic polymers containing non-ionogenic and ionogenic groups are produced by copolymerization of a mixture of monomers consisting of at least 50% by weight of a glycol or glycerol monomethacrylate or monoacrylate, and minor amounts of at least two ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers, one possessing an acidic, and the other a basic, group. The polymerization is preferably carried out in a diluent miscible with the monomer and capable of swelling the copolymer produced. The molar content of acidic groups in the copolymer is preferably equal to or greater than the molar content of basic groups. Examples describe the preparation of copolymers of (1) ethylene glycol monomethacrylate, methacrylic acid, ethylene glycol dimethaorylate and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, (2) propylene glycol monomethacrylate, acrylic acid, 2-vinyl pyridine and methylene-bis-acrylamide, (3) glycerol monomethacrylate, acrylic acid, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and diglycerol dimethacrylate, (4) triethylene glycol monomethacrylate, methacrylic acid p-diethyl amino styrene and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate and (5) diethylene glycol monomethacrylate, itaconic acid, p-dimethylamino styrene and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate, with various initiators and in various solvents.
