[Also in Group XXXVI] An accumulator charge regulator responsive to the rate of evolution of gases to control the charge-rate, comprises a flexible diaphragm 17 open to the cell-interior through duet 12 and adapted to pivot a lever 19 to separate a contact 20 from a further contact 21 on a lever 23 pivoted at 24. Contact 20 is biased closed by a magnet 22, and contact 21 is urged against 20 by an adjustable spring 25 and follows it up until arrested by a stop 28 so as to provide a wipe action. The response of the switch is modified by a removable capillary tube 38 leading to atmosphere. In the form shown, the regulator is adapted to screw into a filling orifice, but the device may alternatively be integral with the accumulator cover and independent of the filler device. Diaphragm 17 may be held by an elastic ring which can serve as a safety valve, Fig. 8 (not shown).
