Abstract

A printed circuit is made by applying on a surface of an insulating base and in a pattern conforming to an electric circuit a film of a paint comprising particles of one or more metals more electro-positive than copper, and then contacting the pattern with a solution containing copper ions so as to deposit a layer of copper. Specifically, the insulating base may be of porcelain, glass fibres or a melamine or phenolic resin; the paint may be based on polyvinyl acetate and contain particles of zinc iron and/or tin, optionally together with copper; the pattern of paint may be produced by printing or with the aid of a stencil; and the copper layer may be produced by inmmersing in or spraying with, an aqueous solution containing copper sulphate, sulphuric acid and a surface-active agent.
