829,354. Etching. ERIE RIDSISTOR Ltd. April 30, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 13999/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 100(2) A process for the production of printed circuits or electrical components comprises preparing a transfer sheet of material with a portion of the circuit thereon in an acid-resistant ink, applying the sheet to a metallic foil backed by a layer of electrically insulating material so that the resistant ink pattern is laid against the metallic surface, treating the sheet, such as by moistening, and excluding any hot transfer operation, to enable the pattern to be transferred to the foil when the sheet is removed, removing the sheet and subjecting the foil with the pattern thereon to an etching process to remove those points of the foil not protected by the resist ink. The transfer sheet may be a paper coated with a solution of gum arabic and starch. The ink may be composed of an acid-resistant varnish or resinous plastic, a wax, or a printing ink having added thereto wax, glycerine and indian ink. The foil may be copper, and the backing may be of a thermoplastic or thermosetting resinous material. The etching bath may be nitric acid or ferric chloride.
