Abstract

<PICT:0980715/C6-C7/1> In the vapour deposition of a metal on an insulating substrate 1, a mask comprises a thin member 2 backed by a thicker member 3 to give mechanical strength. The apertures in the member 2 are accurately shaped, while the apertures in the member 3 are made slightly larger. Both sets of apertures may be made from the same photo-master by a photo-etching process. The masks may be pressed against the substrate by an electromagnet 4.
