Abstract

<PICT:1109097/C6-C7/1> A stencil comprises a laminated sheet in which the corresponding apertures in the different laminae have been separately etched. As shown, the stencil consists of two laminae 1, 2, of silver and phosphor bronze respectively, the lamina 1 being 0.0005 inch thick and about one tenth the thickness of the sheet. A portion 3 of the lamina 2 is first etched away for using a resist and an etching medium to which silver is resistant e.g. ferric chloride. The lamina 1 is then similarly etched at 4 using Farmer's solution as an etching agent. The portion 3 may be made oversize as shown by suitable disposal of the resist or as a result of under-cutting during etching. The stencil may be employed for forming a condenser by depositing a first metal element and dielectric material with inclined edges on a substratum, by evaporation, the phosphor-bronze lamina 2 being in contact with the substratum. The second metal element may be deposited with the silver lamina 1 in contact with the substrate so as to give a well-defined boundary.
