875,861. Root-crop harvesters. STOLL, W. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1958], No. 4506/59. Class 6(3). A device for clearing away trash during beetharvesting comprises a rotary beater, the axis of which lies in a vertical longitudinal plane, and which carries several series of beater arms 6, 7, 8, the ends of the foremost beaterarms 6 being closer to the ground, in their lowermost position, than the ends of succeding series. This can be achieved, either by having beater-arms of equal length on a conical hub, Fig. 2, or of equal length on a cylindrical hub inclined forwardly, Fig. 3, or of unequal lengths on a horizontal cylindrical hub, Fig. 4, (not shown). As shown in Fig. 1a there are two stepped hubs 1, 11 arranged on parallel shafts 5, 15 driven in opposite directions and having beater-arms, whose effective lengths diminish rearwardly in the first set 6, 7, 8, but increase rearwardly in the second set 16, 17, 18. The shafts 5, 15 are offset on opposite sides of the crop-row. The beater arms are of rubber.
