A fastener comprises a single strip of spring material bent to approximately U-shape about tines transverse to its length so as to have two limbs 26, 32 which are formed by a web 29, one of the limbs being formed at its free end with a pointed head and barbed head 33. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5 the head has two barbs 34 which are bent downwardly so that they lie at approximately 90 degrees to each other. Adjacent the web 29, the limb 32 has a pair of wings 30, 31 which are curved to part cylindrical shape. The limb 26 is provided on each side with a pair of upstanding flanges 27, 28. The fastener is used for securing a flexible sealing strip, as shown in Fig. 8 in the form of a tube 23, adjacent a shoulder or groove in a metal panel 21; the panel is formed with an elongated slot and the fastener is positioned in the slot with the web 29 adjacent one end and the flanges 27, 28 adjacent the other end, the web acting as a rear abutment and the flanges as a front abutment with the sides of the flanges aligning the fastener in the slot. The limb 26 then engages the under surface of the panel and the tube is engaged with the fastener by forcing it against the head so that the head pierces the tube, the wings then engaging the outside surface of the tube. In a modification the flanges are formed between the head and the wings instead of on the tongue. In another modification the flanges are omitted and instead a lug is bent and sheared out of the limb 32 between the wings. In another modification Fig. 11 the wings and flanges are omitted and a rearwardly pointed arm 43 is bent out of the limb 26 and web; this arm constitutes the rear abutment and the web constitutes the front abutment. In a further modification the front abutment is formed by bending the head-carrying limb and in a yet further modification both the head-carrying limb and the other limb are bent to form the front abutment. The head can be provided with two pairs of barbs if desired.
