Abstract

874,922. Washing-machines. BROWN, BOVERIE & CIE A.G. July 3, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 23008/59. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A machine for washing or rinsing and subsequent spin-drying comprises a drum 12 which rotates about a horizontal axis and is automatically compensated for uneven weight distribution during spin-drying by compensating containers 13 uniformly distributed in ribs 16 on the periphery of the drum. The containers are normally filled with water or lye through a scooping action but on radial deflection of the drum under uneven weight distribution a spring- urged, conical striker valve 14 in each container is pressed against the wall of the drum housing 3 to release the water therein until the weight distribution is equalized. Various positions for the compensating containers within the ribs are described..-.or. they may be in the form of pockets located in the face wall of the drum (Figs. 10, 11, not shown) which are filled by a jet of water or lye when the drum is rotating slowly during the washing operation.
