874,244. Oil burning apparatus. BOSTON MARINE PATENTS CO. Ltd. May 27, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6816/59. Class 75(1). Oil burning apparatus adapted to be secured to a steam or water boiler 11 comprises a combustion chamber member 1 arranged within a jacket or casing 2 to provide a hollow space 3 (annular or otherwise) between the chamber and jacket, the inner member having an open outlet end communicating with the boiler furnace; air is admitted to the combustion chamber, after circulating the hollow space 3 as a coolant, but simultaneously being pre-heated, via the several perforations 5, 6 and 7 in the jacket 2 and combustion chamber 1 (see arrows), whilst aperture 8 containing a burner nozzle 9 and aperture 4 admit fuel to the chamber. Oil combustion commences immediately inside the chamber and the overflow flame 12 projects or passes into the boiler furnace 11. The above apparatus may be located wholly or partly within the boiler furnace; a forced air supply can replace the natural supply.
