874,159. Boiling-point indicators. TECHNICAL OIL TOOL CORPORATION. Nov. 25, 1959 [Dec. 5, 1958], No. 39990/59. Class 97(3) [Also in Group XXIX] In determining the initial boiling-point of a fluid, e.g. gasoline, it is passed through duct 28 into a vaporizing chamber 10 to form a liquid pool which is heated by a resistance coil 34. When the vapour pressure reaches a pre-determined low pressure, such as five pounds per square inch, diaphragm 60 is moved downwardly so that pressure builds up in a passage 66 which has compressed air inlet 67 and outlet 65. This in turn actuates diaphragm 70 so that pressure builds up in a passage 76 supplied with compressed air at 75, and valve 82 is opened to allow liquid and vapour to pass from chamber 10 through duct 42 to outlet 84. A float operated valve 26 then opens to allow more fluid to enter chamber 10. At equilibrium the temperature of the liquid pool, as determined by thermometer T, is a measure of the initial boiling-point of the fluid. If the incoming fluid is hot it is cooled at 30 to a constant temperature below its initial boiling-point.
