[Also in Group XXV] A hook unit (see Group XXV) for moving a stack of filter plates in a filter press successively from one end position to the other, comprises a hook plate 3, Fig. 1, pivoted at 2 to an endless chain, and one or more sideplates 4 mounted on the pivot for limited movement relatively to plate 3, which has one or more hook parts 7, and latch means 5 on plate 3 each urged by a spring 18 to engage its nose 16 in a recess 17 in the or each plate 4. In use, the hook unit is drawn by the chain along pins 10 projecting from the plates and is prevented from dropping by a surface 9 on the or each plate 4 until the last pin is reached. This pin engages part 7 and pivots the latch means to release the side plate or plates which drop to abut an upper stop 12. When the filter plate approaches the others which have been moved previously ; the or each surface 9 engages the pins 10 and is raised and when the filter plate reaches said others, the hook plate is raised out of engagement with its pin by the cam 6, Fig. 6, and spring 18 re-engages the or each latch with its side plate. The unit is then carried round on the endless chain to move another filter plate. If it is required to move the filter plates in the other direction, the chain movement is reversed causing a nose 20, Fig.7, to engage between two pins 10 while the pivot 2 moves along slot 8 until the unit has turned over.
