Abstract

873,647. Impregnating webs. TEXON Inc. Aug. 12, 1959 [Aug. 13, 1958], No. 27581/59. Class 140. An apparatus for impregnating a wet web W of felted fibres, e.g. with liquid rubber latex, comprises a container 12 for the liquid 13, a roll 9 mounted above the container 12 for rotation about a horizontal axis 10, the roll 9 having an imperforate cylindrical surface 9a and being mounted so that it dips into the liquid 13, an endless screen 3 having a websupporting reach 3a which passes through the container 12 below the roll 9 so as to confine the web W under pressure between the roll 9 and the screen 3, means, e.g. driven rolls, for moving the screw 3 to carry the web through the container 12 beneath the roll 9, and means, e.g. a trough 16a, for delivering impregnating liquid to the upper surface of the web as the web moves away from the roll 9. Liquid may also be delivered from the trough 16a to the upper surface of the web where it approaches the roll 9, as shown. A doctor blade 15 is provided.
