Abstract

873,411. Lubricators. FISHER, J. W. March 23, 1960 [Dec. 30, 1958], No. 41975/58. Class 12 (3). A device for the pre-starting lubrication of an internal-combustion engine comprises a reservoir in which oil is stored under pressure, handcontrolled means for causing the automatic discharge of oil from the reservoir to the engine bearings and means operating simultaneously with such discharge to deliver a supply of upper cylinder lubricant to the engine inlet manifold. The reservoir 1 is initially charged with oil from the galleries through the connection 30 and spring-loaded valve 25, being held under pressure by the spring-loaded piston 11 whose top, a charged position is visually indicated by means of an electrical contact 39. Before starting the engine for normal running a piston member 21 is pulled by a control cable 17, causing a cam surface 23 to open the valve 25 and oil in the reservoir to be forced by the piston through the connection 30 to the oil pressure gallery of the engine. Simultaneously, upper cylinder lubricant is drawn from a reservoir through a non-return valve 34. When the piston 11 reaches its lower, or discharged, position, a visual indication is given by means of an electrical contact 38 and the control cable is released. The member 21 returns under pressure of the spring 20 and the upper cylinder lubricant is discharged to the inlet manifold through the non-return valve 35.
