Abstract
1357236 Lubrication of I.C. engines FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 14 Nov 1972 52489/72 Heading F2A An internal combustion engine is provided with a lubrication system which lubricates appropriate points immediately on starting of the engine, the system comprising a lubricant reservoir 7 supplied with lubricant by the engine lubricant pump by way of a non-return valve 3, the reservoir having an outlet 21 connected to the points of lubrication, there being within the reservoir a member 9 movable against a spring 11 by the pressure developed by the pump, and a latch 13 which holds the member in a position in which the reservoir is charged, the latch being associated with the engine starter motor to release the member on operation of the motor so as to cause lubricant to be discharged from the reservoir to the lubrication points. The latch may be a spring-loaded plunger which is operated to release the member by a solenoid 19 which is energized on operation of the starter motor. The system may be used to lubricate the bearings of a turbo-charger.
