780,883. Lubricating. AKTIESELSKABET BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN -OG SKIBSBYGGERI. April 25, 1955 [April 28, 1954], No. 11923/55. Class 12 (3). In a cylinder lubrication system for an internal combustion engine lubricating oil is supplied to one or more points on the inner surface of the cylinder liner by one or more pumps adapted to supply an accurately metered quantity of oil, and in the supply line from the pump or pumps a controlled cut-off member is provided which is mounted in, the immediate vicinity of the cylinder. As shown, the cut-off member comprises a block 1 with a bore 2 fitted with a liner accommodating a slide valve 3 with peripheral grooves 4 each of which is adapted to establish communication between a bore 9 and a bore 10. The bore 9 is connected through a branch 8 to a supply line which is connected to the lubricating pump and is preferably provided with a sight glass, and the bore 10 is connected through a short line to a point of lubrication on the cylinder liner. The slide valve 3 is adapted to be moved in one direction by means of an electric solenoid 6 against the action of a spring 5. Branching off from the bore 9 is a bore 11 provided with an accumulator consisting of a spring-loaded piston 12 movable in a liner. The accumulator is charged with oil when the slide valve 3 is moved by the solenoid 6 from its normal position shown. The lubricating pump may be one with a reciprocating pump stroke for every revolution or every second or third revolution of the crank of the engine, or it may be one with a piston of large diameter moved very slowly by worm gear operated through ratchet mechanism from an oscillating or reciprocating engine part.
