A skip 3 having an upper pair 5 and a lower pair 4 of rollers permanently engaged in channelsection guides 1, which are provided with parallel extensions 2 at their upper extremities set at angle to the guides, has a hinged bottom door 11 which is opened automatically at a discharge position of the skip by means of a pair of actuating rollers engaged in the guides or extensions. On raising the skip 3 by a winch driven cable 6, Fig. 2, passing over a selfaligning pulley 8 on the skip, to a height at which the rollers 5 engage in an extension 2 of tracks 1, the skip 3 tips about the rollers 4 bringing the bottom over the spout 14 of a container and causing relative movement between the pivot-pins 12 of the door 11 and the rollers 13 to open the door. In modifications, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), the hinged door is connected by links pivoted on the skip to rollers running in the tracks 1 above the rollers 4, 5, the rollers, on engaging the angled extension of the tracks, causing the door to open without tipping the skip. In a further embodiment, Fig. 9, the door 11, pivoted on trunnions 12, rests on rollers 21 on a shaft 22 provided with rollers 25 engaging in the tracks and supported by adjustable links 23 pivoted to the skip at 24. When rollers 5 engage the extension 2 of tracks 1 the skip tips about rollers 4 allowing the door 11 to open when trunnions 12 move to the left in Fig. 9 past the arm 23. The arms 23 may be provided with springs, Fig. 15 (not shown), to assist the opening or closing of the door 11, or the arms 23 may be replaced by leaf-springs, Fig. 14 (not shown). The skip may be divided into compartments by partitions extending down to the door 11, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), or by partitions adjustable to different positions to vary the volumetric proportions of materials in the skip, or by partitions not extending down as far as the door, Figs. 12 and 3 (not shown).
