Abstract

873,134. Optical apparatus. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. Feb. 17, 1958 [June 13, 1957], No. 18728/57. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XXII] Viewing apparatus for attachment to electric arc welding equipment in order to view the arc, comprises a box and a tube projecting from the box and including an object lens and a mounting for the lens, and two pairs of reflecting surfaces mounted within the box so that the four surfaces reflect the light in succession, both surfaces of each pair being perpendicular to a different one of two mutually perpendicular planes and arranged to project an image received from the object lens on to a screen provided in one wall of the box. In the form shown the lens 15 is mounted in a tube 14 slidable on bearings 16 in a tube 17 and adjustable therein by a screw 19 against the action of a spring 18. The tube 17 is connected to a tapered tube 13 attached over an aperture in the wall 11 of the box. The light beam is reflected successively from mirrors 20, 21, 22, 23 to form an image on the screen 24. The box may be suspended by trunnions 30 on the sides of the box from an arm projecting horizontally from a vertical column.
