Abstract
872,620. Shafts. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Aug. 20, 1959 [Aug. 21, 1958], No. 28434/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A turbine engine rotor shaft comprises a sleeve 26 forming a chamber 55 for lubricating oil which is introduced through hollow oil-inlet plugs 61, 62 in the sleeve wall. The plugs extend radially inwards and terminate short of the shaft axis. One end of the chamber 55 is closed by a baffle 52 having a small aperture 54 through which oil flows to a bearing 28. At the other end of the chamber 55, a tie-bolt shaft 21 has a central oil passage 56 through which oil flows to other shaft bearings. Oil from a tank 48 is delivered by a pump 40 through conduits 76, 74, 72, 71 to a conduit 63 provided in a boss 64 secured in a stationary sleeve 66 surrounding the sleeve 26. The pump 40 is driven from the rotor shaft through bevel gears 32, 34 and a shaft 38.
