Abstract

872,443. Vacuum-moulding thermoplastic sheet material. SHELLEY & PARTNERS Ltd., M. L. June 3, 1958 [June 4, 1957], No. 17668/57. Class 87(2). A machine for vacuum forming a sheet of thermoplastic material comprising a plate 3 carrying a mould box 3a connected through a pipe 9 to a suction chamber 2 which is itself connected to a suction pump 4 has columns 10, 11 pivotally mounted on the plate 3 which carry a radiant heater assembly 13, and a clamping frame 12, and a plug 14 respectively. The top of the mould box has a rubber seal and the clamping frame is held downwardly by a toggle 15. The plug 14 is used to form a concavity in the sheet before the suction is applied. Where a female mould is used, the mould is brought up into contact with the sheet by a foot operated platen 25. Where a male mould is used the mould may be raised further to obtain an initial drape. The plug 14 may be electrically heated. The moulded article may be blown from the mould. More than one mould maybe mounted on the machine. Specification 872,442 is referred to.
