Abstract

872,431. Knitting-machines. MORLEY Ltd., I. & R., and MONK (Sutton in Ashfield) Ltd., S.A. Oct. 27, 1959 [July 29, 1958], No. 24326/58. Class 74 (2). Hooks 1 attached to steel bands 2 hook into a preformed welt after it has been transferred to the needles of a straight bar machine and draw the following knitted fabric from the needles as it is produced. Weights 7 attached to the ends of the bands provide the draw-off effect. The fabric is drawn between two fabric take-up rollers which, after the hooks have caused the fabric to be engaged by them, continue to draw off the fabric and deliver it into a receptacle. The bands 2 are apertured and engage toothed wheels 3 which are rotated when the next preformed welt is advanced to the needles to advance the hooks 1, the drive to the wheels 3 being through a clutch which is disengaged when the hooks have engaged the welt. The take-down rollers are rotated by pawl and ratchet mechanism from the main cam shaft. Specification 852,478 is referred to.
