Abstract
872,388. Axle mountings for rail vehicles. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 15, 1958 [July 17, 1957], No. 22645/57. Class 103(6). The position of the axle 10, Fig. 1, of a rail vehicle bogie relative to the transverse centre line of the bogie is controlled by radial arms 18, on each side of the bogie, each of which is journalled at one end on a concentric trunnion 19, Fig. 2, formed integral with the axle box 13, with a bearing liner 20 between the trunnion and arm. The other end of each arm has a resilient bush 21, Fig..3, mounted on a fulcrum pin 22 on the side of the bogie frame to cushion blows transmitted through the arm to the bogie frame and a shock absorber 23 is coupled to an extension 24 of the radial arm and to the bogie frame. The axle is located transversely by anchor links 25, on each side of the bogie which are mounted at one end on pivot pins 26 carried by brackets 27 formed integral with cups 16 which seat suspension springs 14, and at the other end are coupled by pivot pins 28 to a beam 29. The beam fits between webs 30 on the axle box cover plate 31 and has a rubber pad 32 bonded to a metal plate 33 located in groove in the plate 31 and attached thereto by spring- loaded bolts 34 to provide a.cushion for shocks produced on the axle by blows between the wheels and the track and to permit a limited angular movement between the axle box and beam. Specification 872,389 is referred to.
