Abstract
1353347 Railway vehicle undercarriages GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc 22 Sept 1971 [28 Jan 1971] 44172/71 Heading B7L A railway vehicle comprises longitudinally spaced wheeled axles 3, bogie framing 5, 5, 7, 7, 9, 9 supported thereon, vehicle body framing U supported directly from the bogie framing, by air springs 23, 25, 29 carried by and outwardly of the sides of that framing, longitudinal anchor links 59 connected between the springs and the bogie framing, generally transverse links 63 pivotably connected to the body framing U by brackets 65 and to the springs by brackets 61, and a transversely acting pneumatic motor 71 mounted on the bogie framing, from a longitudinal member 73, and pivotally connected at each end to transverse links 79 also connected to the air springs. The bogie framing has a depending centre pin 43 connected by a draft link 48 to a depending pin 51 on the framing U. Elastomeric bushes are provided between the pins 43, 51 and the link 45. Each air spring comprises a reservoir 23 connected to the lower ends of swing links 17, 19 whose upper ends are pivoted to brackets 13 extending from a transverse frame 7, 7, 9, 9 which is mounted in the bogie side frames 5 by rubber-metal chevron springs 11. The reservoir 23 of each spring is connected by a flexible wall 25 to a cap member 29 having an aperture 31 bounded by an elastomeric grommet 32 on which rests a horizontal side bearing plate 33 secured to the framing U. By providing predetermined pressure in the reservoirs 23, the plates 33 can be raised out of compressive engagement with the grommets 32 to facilitate relative horizontal movement of the plates relative to the caps 29. The construction permits the vehicle body B to be banked, when the vehicle is negotiating curved track, about a central longitudinal axis T by the motor 71 under the control of a damped pendulum 89 operatively connected to an air valve 83 connected by conduits 87 to the ends of the motor and to a compressed air supply conduit 85. The transverse links 63 permit rotational movement of the framing U about the central vertical axis S of the bogie, axial projections of the links 63 passing through that axis. In another embodiment the transverse bogie frame is hollow, and supports a pair of air springs at each side. The spring cap at each side is common to the pair of springs and the caps have apertures bonded by concave spherical surfaces engaging, with the interpositioning of elastomeric grommets, convex spherical surfaces of bearings on the body underframe.
