Abstract

The invention comprises 2,6-di-tertiary-alkylated 4-nitrophenols and a process for their preparation by nitrating a 2,6-di-tertiary alkylated phenol in water-insoluble organic solvents with dilute aqueous nitric acid. Examples describe the preparation of the ditert. butyl compounds.ALSO:Insecticidal compositions contain as active compound a 2,6 - di - tertiary alkylated - 4 - nitrophenol and a solid or liquid carrier or diluent. The composition may take the form of an aqueous emulsion or dust and conventional carriers may be used. Specific reference is made to the di-tert.-butyl compound.
