[Also in Group XXXVI] In a controller comprising an air-cooled resistor and a number of oil-operated contactors, the fan for supplying the cooling-air and the pump for providing the oil pressure are driven by a common motor so that the resistor is disconnected if the supply of cooling-air is cut off. The air is also made to flow between the power contacts of the controller for arc-suppression and cooling. In one arrangement, the current of air is circulated inside a closed corrugated container which may be cooled externally. The resistor, which may be used for controlling induction motors, direct-current motors, or Ward-Leonard generators, is shown as having a honeycomb formation.
