Abstract

871,349. Feeding sheets. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. Nov. 7, 1957 [Nov. 9, 1956], No. 34246/56. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XVII] In a packaging machine, coupons or cards 16 are separated sequentially from a magazine 17 by a pivoted sucker 18 and laid on a moving lower belt 19, an oscillating roller 21 presses each coupon on the belt whereby the coupon is gripped and fed by an upper belt 19 and the lower belt towards the former 14 of the machine, and a pair of reciprocating grippers 22 seize the coupon and place it on a reciprocating table 13 on which a carton blank 10 is already registered. The blank 10 and coupon 16 are then moved upwardly by the table into contact with an inner bag on the former 14 to trap the coupon between the blank and the bag, the blank then being folded about the former. The blanks 10 are fed along a platform 11 on to the reciprocating table 13 by an intermittently movable conveyer 12, the final feeding and positioning of the blank being effected by an oscillating pusher 15. The belts 19, conveyer 12, grippers 22, and sucker 18 are operated in timed relationship. The grippers 22 comprise a lower gripper on a carrier arm 23, and an upper gripper on a spring-loaded arm 24 pivoted on the carrier 23. The carrier 23 is oscillated by a cam operated link 27, and the arm 24 is actuated by a cam operated arm 26 to raise and lower the upper gripper. In a modification, the pivoted sucker 18 feeds the coupons 16 to rollers, and the grippers 22 seize the coupons after they leave the rollers.
