Abstract
871,129. Electric coils. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 22, 1959 [Oct. 30, 1958], No. 35829/59. Class 35. A method of making an electrical coil for use at high temperatures comprises the steps of (1) overlaying a conductor with fibrous inorganic material, e.g. glass or asbestos; (2) impregnating with a flexible organic resin ; (3) curing the resin; (4) forming the conductor into a coil; (5) heating to destroy the resin; (6) re-impregnating with a high-temperature resistant material ; and (7) curing or firing this material. The conductor may be of copper, iron, aluminium, nickel or alloys thereof; the flexible resin may be of polyvinyl, phenol-formaldehyde, oil or butyral modified phenolic, polyethylene, acrylic, epoxy or polyester type, and the final, high temperature impregnant may be silicone varnish or resin, inorganic phosphate material or sodium silicate cement or other ceramic.
