Abstract
923,296. Securing coils for dynamo electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 19, 1960], No. 43576/60. Class 35. A method of forming a magnetic structure comprises applying to each of a plurality of elements of magnetic material a first coating of resin which is infusible within a certain temperature range, applying a second coating of resin which is fusible within that temperature range and then applying heat and pressure to mould the structure, the moulding temperature being within the stated temperature range. A magnetic slot wedge, Fig. 1, is formed from a number of iron wires 1 coated with hardened resin, to which another coating of fusible bonding resin 2 is added such that they may be moulded together under heat and pressure without fusing the first coating. The magnetic structure thus has a high proportion of insulated magnetic material to minimize eddy currents. To add mechanical strength to the wedge an outer casing 3 of woven glass cloth treated with epoxy resin is added. The first coating may be polyvinyl resin mixed with phenol aldehyde and heat-treated to produce a film around the element, the bonding resin may be the same mixture but not heattreated to the same extent so that it remains fusible.
