Abstract

870,771. Packaging. BREVETTI C. E. A. S.p.A. April 8, 1959 [April 22, 1958], No. 11808/59. Class 94(1). A machine for packing vials &c, in the compartments of a corrugated strip 18 comprises a sloping table down which the vials slide to enter grooves in a guide member, a ram pushing successive batches of vials into the strip. The filled strip is cut into lentghs at regular intervals. Vials 15 are massed on the table 13, supported on their lower ends, and the foremost row, the length of which is adjustable by moving a guide 11 and integral side wall 17, enters grooves in a plate 14a. The grooves diverge upwards to correspond at their exits to the strip compartment spacing. A ram 25 carried on a reciprocating member 24 forces the first row into the strip, the following row being restrained by a rail 21. Movement of the member 24 causes lever and slideway means 30-33, 35, 36, to operate knife members 35a, 40 to cut off a previously filled length of strip. Movement of the member 35a rotates a cylindrical pinion 42 to advance a gripper 45 attached to a rack 44, the gripper having pins 46 which engage in a strip compartment. The gripper is then shifted longitudinally by a cam operated lever 54 to advance the strip for the next filling operation. The stroke of the lever, and thus the strip advance, is adjustable. The plate 14a may be interchangeable for different size vials.
