Abstract
895,259. Bottling. MULTI-FILL MACHINE CO. May 4, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959; Oct. 16, 1959], No. 15791/60. Class 125(2). A bottling machine comprises, in combination, a fluid-supply holder 52, means for feeding bottles in groups to and from a filling station, a group of nozzles 65 each capable of withdrawing a measured charge from the holder and discharging it into a bottle of the group, means for reciprocating the group of nozzles between a lower position overlying the filling station and an elevated position, means for reciprocating the holder horizontally between forward and rearward positions, these reciprocations being synchronised so that two nozzlereciprocations occur for each holder-reciprocation, and means for actuating the nozzles for withdrawing fluid from the holder and discharging it, upon alternate arrivals of the nozzles at their lowermost positions. The holder comprises a roughly rectangular pan tilted forwardly to form a well 64 at its front and mounted in a frame 61 which is reciprocated horizontally by a cam 97 acting against tensionsprings 101. The pan is fed from a reservoir 20 through a tube 53 having a manually-operable stop-cock 55, 56, 58. The nozzles 65 are formed on the bottoms of cylinders 66, the pistons of which are movable in unison by a slide 77 to which they are all connected by a channel 74. The slide is vertically reciprocable by a double-acting pneumatic ram 79, the stroke of which controls the quantity picked up by the nozzles 65 and is adjustable by a screw-plunger 85. The nozzles 66, cylinders 66, and ram 79 are all carried on a rocking frame 69 pivoted at 89 on the machineframe 30 and reciprocated vertically by a doublelobed cam 92, on the same shaft 94 as the cam 97. This shaft also drives, through gearing 112, a cam-shaft 111 actuating two switches 109, 151, one of which, 109, controls the operation of the ram 79 and the other actuates a ram 147, Fig. 5, effecting the shifting of bottle-groups at the filling station. The bottles are fed to the filling station, by a continuously-moving apron 113, in two files I, II formed by fixed channels 158, 159, 167. The apron continues below the filling station, Fig. 10, and the bottles are discharged thereon in a single file III formed by guides 171, 172. At the filling station, the bottles are divided into groups by horizontallyreciprocable guides 130 movable by the ram 147. The guides 130 co-operate with fixed stops 122, 124, 126 to separate the bottles into groups of five, A 1-5, B 1-5, &c. In Fig. 10, the group B has been isolated from the stream I and pushed forward below the nozzles (see also Fig. 4) the filled bottle-groups A has been pushed laterally by a group C; at the next reciprocation of the guides 130, the group A will be carried by the apron 113 away along the passage III, the group C will be moved to filling position against the stop 122 and the group B will be pushed laterally by the group D until it abuts the stop 124. Irregularly-shaped containers can be filled by this method if they are first mounted in groups in holders, Figs. 16, 17 (not shown), which are then advanced by the apron 113 as above.
