Abstract

870,603. Labelling machines. FAIRWAY PATENTS Ltd. Aug. 29, 1959, No. 29543/59. Class 73. A labelling machine comprises means for detaching unmoistened gummed labels from a supply and feeding them to a labelling station with their gummed side towards an article to be labelled, moistening them and pressing them to the articles which are fed in succession to the station. The gum on the labels is moistened whilst they are being moved on suction holes on an intermittently rotating hexagonal drum 6 of the kind described in Specification 870,594 in this Group by. steam from a flash boiler 11 described in Group IX with reference to the same Specification. In addition, adhesive may be applied to edges of the gummed side of the label to hold it in position on the article whilst the gum is softening. The Specification describes applications of this sequence of operations in machines similar to those described in Specification 835,777 including types specially suitable for bottles of rectangular section. Specification 833,685 also is referred to.
